Private Equity Fund Accountant - Senior Associate

The role of the Senior Associate is to support the finance, reporting, accounting and operation functions across the Sovereign’s investment entities. The Senior Associate will support the CFO in all aspects of fund management, including management of the Apex, the third-party fund administrator, review and management of Apex quarterly financial accounting and reporting, the annual audit cycle, annual fund tax returns and quarterly fund blocker taxes and tracking of portfolio and investor returns. This role assists senior team members with valuations and reporting to limited partners. The Senior Associate will identify and implement automation and techniques to improve process efficiency and team productivity.

Senior Associate responsibilities include:

Fund Accounting Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the funds and SPVs

  • Review quarterly financial statements and workpapers

  • Review all capital transactions, including capital calls and capital distributions

  • Assist with the quarterly valuation process, including reviewing all portfolio company valuation models and policies and procedures documentation for the firm

  • Review investor waterfall allocations (prepared by fund admin) pursuant to partnership agreements including preferred returns, GP catch ups, carried interest calculations, etc.

Investment Team Support

  • Lead cash- planning and cash-forecasting for all entities, including reserves budget and recycling schedule for funds, maintaining capital analysis for all active funds to track capital available for investing, capital reserved for follow on investments, fees and guarantees

  • Help prepare, review and track investment and fund-level performance metrics

  • Provide technical support for the Investment teams regarding tax and accounting considerations in structuring and exiting investments

Investor Relations

  • Support LP requests and inquiries and liaise with investor relations team regarding ad-hoc or recurring investor requests

  • Prepare forward projections for capital calls and distributions for LPs

  • Assist in developing and preparing LP communications

  • Assist in training and supporting Investment Relation team members

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong cultural fit with our company’s vision, mission, and values

• Bachelor’s degree required, accounting degree or CPA preferred

• 4-8 years of relevant experience in Private Equity or Venture Capital

• Strong quantitative & analytical skills with fluency in financial statements

• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel

• Strong understanding of corporate finance, capital markets, and investment principles

• Desire to work hard and do timely and excellent work

• Proactive/self-starter with ability to excel in a remote work environment

• Superior attention to detail
