Job Description:

Principals in our Private Equity Practice Group are critical to this vision leading the full investment cycle. Successful Principals help generate and evaluate investment opportunities, lead investment transactions, direct portfolio optimization, and support firm wide administration, including investor relations. Principals also have the opportunity to shape the organization, build firm culture, lead on process improvements, and develop industry relationships critical to our long-term success. Our private equity practice has built a strong track record investing in lower middle market businesses primarily throughout the US Southeast with outstanding management teams, vibrant corporate cultures, and defensible business strategies. As the firm continues to expand, we are seeking to add a world-class Principal to our team.

Essential Functions:

  • Build Culture: Embrace and model the firm’s overall cultural priorities as we seek to live out our company’s vision and values.

  • Investment Sourcing and Evaluation: Collaboratively generate and evaluate investment opportunities that meet our fund thesis and criteria. Work with the PE team to cultivate relationships with individual Ambassadors and our partner organizations to develop high quality deal flow.  Contribute to the initial screening of investment opportunities and perform necessary research to assist in high quality evaluation.

  • Investment Execution: Coordinate and lead the initial due diligence process organizing team personnel to effectively engage with company leadership to negotiate a fair, balanced investment structure. Direct prospect engagement, financial modeling, business evaluation, and valuation research to develop an Investment Committee Memo that provides an overview of the investment opportunity, financials, and return profiles. Successfully negotiate and develop Letters of Intent, leading deal personnel, major transaction processes and service providers, including lenders, to ensure a timely investment closing.

  • Portfolio Optimization: Seek to positively influence the optimization of each assigned portfolio company. Work with company leadership and operating partners to ensure healthy governance occurs, appropriate forward stewardship (value creation) plans are in place and completed supporting the investment base case returns. For healthy accountability, monitor monthly financial performance and lead quarterly portfolio company reviews.

  • Investor Relations: Participate in fundraising efforts for the firm, educating a professional network about the firm’s overarching thesis and the private equity practice group. When appropriate, invite aligned prospective investors to become limited partners.

  • Firm Administration: Actively participate in regular team meeting cadence, semi-annual team meetings, monthly firm meetings, and our annual firm retreat. As requested, support fundraising efforts in concert with other firm or team employees. Abide by firm policy with respect to compliance requirements and expense reimbursement. Demonstrate consistent use of internal communication and CRM software. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all firm personnel.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proactive/Self-starter with ability to excel in a remote work environment

  • Superior attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all mediums

  • Strong quantitative &  analytical skills with fluency in financials statements

  • Financial modeling expertise with a concentration on leveraged buyout models

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Previous lower or middle market private equity experience to include:

    • Sourcing and leading investment processes

    • Engagement with shareholders and advisers of shareholders at potential target companies identifying actionable investment opportunities

    • Serving as an observer and/or board member for portfolio companies

    • Managing the due diligence process; data room oversight, gathering and reviewing portfolio company data, and coordinating meeting schedules,

    • Developing investment strategies and investment memos for presentation,

    • Understanding important legal documents critical to a successful investment

    • Initiating and engaging with senior lending partners

    • Analyzing portfolio company performance,

    • Evaluating potential exit options; and,

    • Managing a variety of different projects simultaneously

  • Industry knowledge and understanding of industry-wide financial benchmarking

  • Ability to travel to support the investment process, attend firm events, industry conferences, and support existing portfolio conferences.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred

Minimum Work Experience:

8+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or transaction advisory at a top tier firm.
